First Aid Greece Meets its Latest Challenge…
…by training 25 Greek doctors and nurses in EFR Primary Care with AED.
In late December, First Aid Greece ran a one day course for a large group of doctors and nurses in Athens. Delivering the EFR Primary Care with AED course, they drove home the importance of good quality CPR and AED use in the treatment of Cardiac Arrest.
Theory lectures were delivered on a central stage, breaking down into 5 groups for practical sessions and scenario practice.
“Splitting the students into groups with dedicated instructors for skill practice meant that maximum time could be given to students to develop skills, particularly during the CPR and AED sessions. IKA doctors in Greece are the equivalent of the NHS in the UK. To have a public sector business win in Greece is a real breakthrough and we look forward to continuing to raise awareness of the importance of up to date resuscitation skills.”
Fotini Teneketzi, Chief Instructor.
Student feedback was extremely positive with above average exam results reflecting their enthusiasm and interest.
Hands Only CPR
Don’t forget to tell your EFR course participants that if they are unwilling to give rescue breaths, chest compressions alone can make a difference. Vinnie Jones shows how hard and fast Hands-only CPR to Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees can help save the life of someone who has had a cardiac arrest. The Hollywood hardman is starring in a British Heart Foundation TV advert urging more people to carry out CPR in a medical emergency.
Newcomers in Athens Discover the Importance of First Aid Skills in Greece
On Wednesday 9th November John Collett, of First Aid Greece, delivered an informative and thought-provoking presentation to nearly 100 members of the “Newcomers in Athens” group.
“Newcomers in Athens” is an informal group for women from around the world that offers a support system to new arrivals to Athens.
The “Preparation for Life” presentation focused on the importance of first aid training in Greece to empower lay people with life saving skills and dispel some of the misconceptions of first aid at home.
The presentation included an interactive question and answer session on common first aid myths, an introduction to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and the importance of quality Basic Life Support training for all as well as the need for public accessibility of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
Demonstrations of choking along with adult, child and infant CPR were followed by audience participation, allowing people to try CPR on a range of CPR mannequins.

Become a Manual Handling Instructor
Statistics show that the most common form of workplace injury is skeletal, due to poor lifting and handling techniques. Depending on the working environment, employers often have a duty of care to provide Manual Handling training to their employees. As an EFR Manual Handling Instructor you’d be in a position to offer this training to your current customers and to start bidding for new contracts.
As this is an EFR Distinctive programme, you may simply download the Manual Handling Instructor Guide and Electronic Lesson guides from the EFR website, along with the application form. There are no student materials for this programme. Once you’ve been approved as a Manual Handling Instructor you may begin marketing your courses. Course completion is verified through use of the normal EFR Course Completion Authorisation (CCA) and your participants will receive recognition for this programme in the form of a wall certificate.
For more information about becoming an EFR Manual Handling Instructor contact the Training Department at training.emea@emergencyfirstresponse.com or log onto the EFR Pros site and follow links from Continuing Education/First Aid at Work/Great Britain/Workplace First Aid Instructor Toolbox/Manual Handling Instructor Application and Outline
